After 13 months, tonight is finally the DiddyGethard show at UCB. Here’s Geth’s first-person account of the long, strange trip it’s been getting one of the biggest stars in the world to come do his midnight basement comedy show.

Dreams do come true. Chris Gethard has always been my favorite performer at UCB and I can’t believe this finally happened. I’m just bummed I wasn’t there.

If you live in New York (hell even if you don’t), and you’ve never been to a UCB show, go, immediately. I’m serious. You’re like one of those people that’s like “I’ve lived here for nine years and I’ve never been to: Rockefeller center, MOMA, Katz’s. This is more important.

You’ll probably want to start with Sunday Night’s AssssCat, since that’s most popular and when the big dogs come out (You’ll recognize someone from SNL or 30 Rock in the cast). The craziest show is the 9:30 because it’s free and you have to wait a few hours in line with some crazy improv geeks, but you can also buy tickets for the 7:30 online, and they’re 10 bucks.

But Tuesday at 8 is Harold Night - and that’s when the best improv teams in the city do the funniest stuff you’ll ever see. And you won’t believe it’s possible that all of this was made up on the spot, and you’ll want to learn improv yourself, and you’ll take a class, maybe, or you’ll start going to a few shows and feel really good for supporting this amazing place. No matter what you’ll be very glad that you know UCB now, and you’ll love New York just that much more.
