I think Tumblr was acting up earlier, so here’s the link to my When Harry Met Sally walking tour this weekend.

“I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
-Harry Burns, When Harry Met Sally

Last fall, my friend Keely and I created our own walking tour of the movie You’ve Got Mail. Now movie tours have become our favorite new fall tradition!

Yesterday, we battled the rain and cold to do our own tour of When Harry Met Sally. The sacrifice: two broken umbrellas.

We visited:

* Washington Square Park
(Sally shakes Harry’s hand and says, “Have a nice life.”)

* The Puck Building
(Harry and Sally dance here on New Year’s Eve.)

* Katz’s Deli
(“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Need I say more.)

* Brookstone
(Harry sings “Surrey with the Fringe on Top.” Unfortunately, karaoke machines are no longer sold here.)

* Central Park
(Harry and Sally stroll through the Mall one autumn day.)

* Central Park Boathouse
(Sally tells her girl friends over lunch that she and Joe broke up. Carrie Fisher asks, “So he’s single?”)

* Metropolitan Museum of Art
(Harry asks Sally to see a movie with him. The museum closed as we arrived, so we could not “partake of their pecan pie.”)

What New York-based movie should we do next year?

photo “I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly.”
Last year, my girl friend and I admitted our love for “You’ve Got Mail,” a movie that I enjoy even more now that I’ve lived on the Upper West Side for a few years.
Last fall, we took our own walking tour of the movie, visiting “The Shop Around the Corner,” Gray’s Papaya, Cafe Lalo and Shopgirl’s apartment (pictured above). We ended the tour in Riverside Park, where Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meet and (sniff!) kiss passionately in front of the flowers.
This weekend we’re doing our own walking tour of “When Harry Met Sally.” While I’m excited to visit such sites as Washington Square Park and the Central Park Boathouse, it’s a little sad how much I’m looking forward to eating (and moaning) at Katz’s Deli.
